
The Role
The Network Engineer is expected to take ownership of the design and implementation of network solutions required by the business. The role also involves providing 3rd party line support for diagnostics and management of network incidents, vendor and supplier engagement, and mentoring of graduate engineers.
Core Responsibilities
Design, document and implement network solutions to deliver business objectives
Lead and manage the delivery of multiple projects at the same time to achieve agreed timescales
Contribute to the build and capacity management of the network, to facilitate optimum operation of the network under normal and failure conditions
Manage and resolve complex network and system incidents within desirable timeframes to meet defined SLAs
Engage and manage relationships with 3rd parties such as vendors, suppliers, and technical strategic partners
Contribute to the development of automation solutions to improve process / operational efficiency in the networks team
Participate in the on-call rota to support optimal operation of the network
Support the Senior Network Engineer with mentoring of graduate engineers to aid their development.

Qualifications
Engineering/Maths/Science related university degree
Minimum professional qualification – a valid CCNP/JNCIS-SP/JNCIS-ENT certification
Cisco DevNet/JNCIA-DevOps certification (desirable)
Skills and Experience
Minimum 5 years’ experience working for an ISP across a service lifecycle - Design, Build, Automate, Operation
Experience with GPON/XGS-PON and passive optical network technologies
Network design workflow experience and HLD/LLD documentation
Designing/implementing QoS-enabled solutions using concepts such as traffic classification, marking, queuing & scheduling, policing, and H-QoS
Experience with virtualisation concepts and solutions e.g., Hypervisor types, VMWare ESXi, Proxmox VE server, and Proxmox Backup server, RAID types, etc.
Knowledge of optical DWDM/CWDM solutions
Intermediate/advanced knowledge of L2/L3 routing and switching protocols such as BGP, OSPF, ISIS, STP, Q-in-Q, storm control, etc.
Knowledge of MPLS technologies such as L2/L3 VPNs, RSVP, LDP, etc.
Basic Unix/Linux administration and scripting
Experience with NMS and metrics collection servers such as LibreNMS, Grafana, SolarWinds, PRTG, InfluxDB, and Graphite
Network automation using Python, Ansible and related libraries
Network inventory management using Netbox
Familiarity with security solutions e.g., Fortinet and Palo Alto firewalls, and IPS/IDS etc.
Experience with wireless AP technologies and administration
Supplier and vendor engagement/management
Technical authoring
Ability to work in a team and engage in mentoring
Clear written and verbal communication
Creativity/Innovation
Delivering technical workshops to internal teams
Ability to manage time & prioritise work
Excellent work ethic with high attention to detail
Self-starter and good enthusiasm and the ability to stay calm under pressure
Keen desire to learn & seek improvement with openness and willingness to seek help when needed
Methodical approach to problem solving
UK Driving Licence and own vehicle.
