Payroll Officer (Part-time 16 hours a week) – Irlam, Manchester



The Role

We are currently outsourcing payroll and we have decided to bring in-house. We are looking for someone with experience and who can help us to transition.


As our Payroll Officer you will be responsible for processing payroll, remitting payroll taxes and government reporting as well as preparing monthly, quarterly and year-end payroll statements. Ensure compliance with government regulations, pension auto enrolment. establishing and implementing policies on matters such as payroll advancements to employees.


Responsibilities include

  • Provide a timely and accurate payroll system.

  • Provide comprehensive first-line advice to employees within the business.

  • Support the processing and running of the monthly payroll.

  • Ensure all necessary payments are made within the deadlines set, for example, pension contributions and BACS salary payments.

  • Performs the distribution of wages through direct transfers to employees’ bank accounts.

  • Ensure current payroll knowledge is up to date and inline with HMRC, with procedures updated accordingly.

  • Maintain payroll processing system and records by gathering, calculating and inputting data.

  • Identify, investigate and resolve discrepancies in payroll records.

  • Honour confidentiality of employees’ payroll records.

  • Complete payroll reports for record-keeping purposes or managerial review.

Person Specification

  • Recognised payroll qualification essential (CIPP, AAT, Foundation Degree…)

  • Experience in running payroll for a 100+ employee company.

  • Experience with market leading systems like Brightpay.

  • Excellent mathematical skills.

  • Ability to work on a deadline.

  • High attention to detail and quality.

  • IT literate – competent in Microsoft Office package with a sound knowledge of Excel.

  • Sound knowledge and understanding of statutory requirements.

  • Be able to communicate effectively.

  • Strong communication skills both verbal and written.

  • Team player.
