The 2024 Freedom Fund is now closed. Applicants will be contacted this summer to inform them of the outcome of their application. The Freedom Fund will return in 2025!
In partnership with the UK government, Freedom Fibre is rolling out its lightning-fast, full-fibre network to homes and businesses across North Shropshire. Full-fibre is the future; with the existing copper network due to be replaced by fibre-optic cables in a nationwide switch-off, and both internet and phone lines benefiting from the speed and reliability of full-fibre networks such as ours.
As part of our commitment to communities across North Shropshire, Freedom Fibre’s Freedom Fund is back for 2024 and will make grants of up to £500 available to community non-profit groups delivering environmental projects. The Fund is now in its third year and has previously provided funds for a range of projects such as community orchards and gardens, solar panels, and habitat improvement projects.
Non-profit community groups within our North Shropshire build footprint – found within the pink boundary line on the map below – can apply for grants to support their environmental projects. Projects must meet two of the below criteria:
-
Contributes to cleaner air.
-
Contributes to cleaner and plentiful water.
-
Supports plants and wildlife to thrive.
-
Reduces the risk of harm from environmental hazards such as flooding and drought.
-
Uses resources from nature in a sustainable and efficient way.
-
Enhances the beauty and heritage with the natural environment, and engagement with it.
-
Mitigates climate change.
-
Minimises waste.
-
Manages exposure to chemicals.
-
Enhances biosecurity.
