Project Delivery Manager – AC’s and Backbone, Manchester




The Role

Freedom Fibre are looking for an Backbone & Active Cabinet Delivery Manager to support roll out of fast and reliable full-fibre broadband to homes and businesses.


Reporting into the Project Manager you will own and manage a specific part of the essential build cycle.


You will lead by example with no day likely to be the same in this technically demanding role. Your experience in managing functions, stakeholders and championing excellence will support our goals. Tenacity is key within this role with the ability to self-motivate. You will own relationships with key internal and external stakeholders to support results and improvements where necessary.


Core Responsibilities

  • Ensure successful delivery of projects on time and within budget, in a safe and effective manner.

  • Management of backbone and active cab delivery from design, through mobilisation and build to handover.

  • Planning of build activities for backbone network including active cabinet deployment and optical backbone routes, working with suppliers and contractors to ensure awareness and compliance with requirements, expectations and timescales.

  • Use project management methodology to plan activities, track progress, use RAID logs etc.

  • Work with the suppliers, contractors and wider team to accurately forecast dates for works which are in line with business need to ensure seamless delivery.

  • Identify and communicate dependencies and priorities that will have a direct impact on deliverables.

  • Proactively monitor and pursue tasks to ensure dates are met.

  • Escalating as necessary the completion of delayed activities to keep build on track ensuring fluidity.

  • Managing any requests for change with the design department and ensure all changes are tracked, approved and implemented where appropriate.

  • Support joint walkouts as necessary, making sure Engineers are aware of the requirements.

  • Using internal systems to ensure costs are tracked and budgets allocated prior to any works commencing.

  • Own internal and external stakeholder relationships.

  • Risk identification and management and a project and process level.

  • Provide reports to the Project Manager progress, risk and issues, as well as lessons learnt.

  • Ensure compliance with CDM Regulations within area of responsibility.

  • Creating and owning documents and processes that provide guidance and structure for the work area.

  • Ensure that projects are compliant with any applicable codes, practices, policies, performance standards, and specifications as required.

Skill and Experience

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience within the telecoms industry

  • Previous experience working for a FTTX service supplier is desirable

  • Understanding of Active Cabinet deployment, fundamental principles and potential issues

  • Previous project management experience or demonstratable experience in handling project works

  • Proficient in Microsoft packages including Excel/Word/PowerPoint/Visio & Project

  • Experience with planning and design tools such as QGIS or APX

  • Experience of working to tight deadlines and meeting funding and operational targets

  • Experience of dealing with projects that impact the general public and other stakeholders
